MUMBAI: International star Elijah Wood is here in Mumbai to play at Trilogy with DJ Zack Cowie. This is ‘The Lord of the Rings’ star’s first visit to India and he believes that India is vibrant, palatable and fascinating.
Wood and Cowie form the Wooden Wisdom duo and have been playing gigs for a while now.
The DJ has also got a few Indian records and will be playing the same on 3 September. Amongst Indian musicians, his favourites are Asha Bhosle, Bappi Lahiri and Charanjit Singh.

“It’s all fresh and new. This is the country that I wanted to visit for the whole of my life. It’s a culture that has fascinated me. I love the food. It’s a place that has magic and mystic from afar. It’s been on my list to travel. So all that we are taking in is completely a new sensation and we are exploring more,” said Wood.
He further added, “We travel lot, and when we travel to different places there are fans of local music there. So, a part of our travel is also about incorporating and learning about the music, from the regions that we travel to.”
Talking about their music, he said, “We have music from all around the world and different period. We just make sure it is good. We’ve got music from the 70s and the 80s as well international music from Poland, Lebanon, Africa, New York.”
As far as the Bollywood music is concerned, Wood and his team has mixed ‘Come Closer,’ ‘I Am a Disco Dancer,’ ‘Dil Mera’ and ‘Chhodo Sanam’ amongst others to be played during their gigs in India.
Wood and his team will also be exploring the cities of Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Eating the local food and buying local records is something that they do on all their trips and India is no different. “We plan to steal an auto and drive it around the city,” Wood joked.
Furthermore, the artist is also keen to attend music festivals in India. “We haven’t heard of any music festivals but we would like to come back and play in them. I believe that festivals bring in a wide crowd and people want to hear a variety of things, so there is openness to music. And we tend to play music that people aren’t that familiar with,” he informed.
The DJ does not have any plans of producing music in the future as he can hardly play any musical instruments. “I love music but I don’t know if I would like to make music,” he said.
