MUMBAI: MTV Coke Studio’s ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’ – a song by Gurdas Maan, Diljit Doshanj and Jatinder Shah has managed to cross one million views and is racing to get another million. The song’s growing popularity has managed to bring a smile on a lot of faces associated with it and one such person is its creator, the legendary singer, Gurdas Maan.
Buoyed with the response, Maan has begun working on a new non-film music album with Jatinder Shah. “The album will be about drug abuse. I have been seeing a lot of youngsters getting into drugs especially in Punjab. Hence I felt it was important to give a message to them through music. As role models in society, it is our duty to do what we can to give our younger generation a better future.”
Speaking about ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da,’ Maan said he was not expecting the song to get so popular as his team had limited time to work on it. “We only had three-four days to work on the song and Jaggiji (MTV music content head Jagjit Singh) wanted me to work on ‘Ni Main Kamali Yaar Di Kamli’ but I suggested reworking on it. I wanted the song to showcase the current situation of our country and world at large thus; we named it ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’. Next we started working on the lyrics. It was important to get it right and we did. After all of it, we practiced on the song and then recorded it,” narrated Maan.

He further added, “I have got a few responses via tweets and I am really thankful to everyone for having appreciated the song. We have also got a lot of comments and a few of them have been read to me. So, I am glad that everyone is appreciating it.”
Speaking about Bollywood celebs turning singers for films, Maan said, “I feel they are only singing for a film or two so, it’s not going to affect a musician. In fact, one should accept their work because they have tried working on something new and different.”
While he has a fan following across the globe, he personally is extremely fond of Honey Singh’s music. “I like Honeyji’s music. His lyrics are the kinds that can create controversies but the music is really good.”
Maan will be busy touring in Canada from 5 to 20 September, 2015.
