MUMBAI: Rock On for Humanity, a charity event initiated by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Arjun Rampal and the Nargis Dutt Memorial Charitable Trust generated a whopping sum of Rs 32 million at the MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai last evening. The funds raised through the live music concert were donated to the Nargis Dutt Memorial Charitable Trust in order to help the flood-affected children of Bihar.
The three-hour concert featured some of the best talent in the country. After the success of the film Rock On’s music, this was indeed the first time that rock bands, which are otherwise cynical about Bollywood music, shared the stage with well-known names from the Bollywood music industry and joined hands for the social cause.
The bands that performed at the event were Something Relevant, Shaa’ir & Func, Avial, Dream out Loud, Them Clones, Shankar, Ehsan and Loy featuring Shaan and Kunal Ganjawalla, Raghu Dixit, Kailasa, Pentagram, Parikrama with Saif Ali Khan and Farhan Akhtar’s band ‘Magik’. However, one artiste who was missing from the scheduled list of performers, was Rabbi Shergill.
Stars and socialites like Shah Rukh Khan, Hritik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Parmeshwar Godrej, Karan Johar, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Malaika Arora and Zayed Khan were seen encouraging the acts as well making donations.
Considering the present socio-political scenario in Maharahtra, all the performers and celebrities abstained from making any strong statements on the issue. Nevertheless, all were of the opinion that the present generation is ‘intelligent’ to understand things and it’s only the youth which can make a difference. Around 4,000 revelers comprised both the young and the old (but young-at-heart).
Rock On for Humanity was sponsored by Bombay Times and organised by OranJuice Entertainment.
