MUMBAI: Unperturbed by the fame and limelight he attracts, Mithoon has not yet let notoriety affect him. From making his debut as a music composer with ‘Tere Bin’ from ‘Bas Ek Pal’ in 2006, to more recently winning several awards for his compositions in ‘Aashiqui 2’ and ‘Ek Villain’, he has been labelled as one of the leading composers in the country. His tracks like ‘Aankhein Teri’ from ‘Anwar’, ‘Phir Mohabbat’ from ‘Murder 2’ and ‘Banjaara’ from ‘Ek Villain are songs that have changed the face of contemporary Hindi film music.
In an era, where crass lyrics and peppy numbers dominated playlists and charts, Mithoon offered soothing melodies. With this, he has carved his niche in the music industry. “I consider myself very blessed as I always met people who believed in the kind of music I made. Whether it was Onir or Manish Jha or Mohit Suri or even Mukhesh Bhatt sahab, everyone connected with the kind of music I made,” said Mithoon.
Known for putting a great deal of emotion into his music, Mithoon adores yesteryear composer Madan Mohan. When asked how emotional he really is, he explained, “I think each and every human being has emotions and I have no hesitation in admitting that I am emotional too. But at the end of the day it is about how much you conceal or reveal.”

Recently, Mithoon composed the single ‘Humnava’ for the Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi starrer, ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’. The track is sung by Papon with lyrics penned by Sayeed Quadri. When asked why he chose not to write the lyrics for the track, Mithoon said, “‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ is a matured loved story and it needed that kind of a maturity, this is why I asked Sayeed Sahab to write lyrics for the song. About composing the track, I feel it is very fulfilling to compose for a story as honest as ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’.”
For crooning ‘Humnava’, he tried quite a few singers, but did not get the result he desired. “Mohit has been following Papon’s music for a while now and he recommended his name. We finally got the feel we needed for the song,” he added.
Mithoon, who took a break from music in 2008 for about two years, also revealed his decision for the same. “For me it was necessary to take a break because I wanted to find a new message in my music after all the appreciation I received in the initial phase of my career.” The ‘Tum Hi Ho’ composer also said he is open to work with new talent in the industry.
Apart from several prestigious Bollywood projects including Ajay Devgan’s magnum opus ‘Shivaay’, in which he will compose the entire score, Mithoon is also planning to launch a single and is working on some other concepts. “I would love to reinterpret a few old melodies. I am currently working on a few concepts and you will hear them soon,” he said on a concluding note.
