MUMBAI: Legendary R&B does not seem to have been impressed by Kanye West’s performance at this year’s BRIT Awards. During his performance, West uttered the controversial n-word, much to Richie’s discomfort and caused severe debate on the ITV network, the channel that hosted the BRIT Awards.
Speaking after the show, Richie told The Mirror, “Am I fan of the N-word? Not coming from the 1960s and 70s; whereas the new world has embraced it. I don’t think it is OK for a black man to use the N-word. I do not like it – and I am a black man. I do not think it should be said and become normal.”
The ‘Hello’ singer further went on to say, “Kanye is giving us the generation shock value. How he carries on for the next 10 years we will see. The music business is more attention driven, but you have to let it pass. Do not even focus on it. Because what we have going on in the world is so over the top. I mean, who are we fighting? There is more hunger and famine in the world today than there was when we did We Are the World.”

According to sources, West recorded an edited version of the track earlier that day, but opted to change an hour before. ITV frequently muted the sound during the broadcast but some uses of the N-word sneaked out to TV audiences. For the same, the channel received numerous complaints, yet West is scheduled to return on ITV on Saturday, when he appears on The Jonathan Ross Show.
