MUMBAI: Annie Mac has been announced as the new presenter of BBC Radio 1’s new daily evening music show, which will be aired from 7 to 9 pm every Monday to Thursday, starting 9 March 2015. Mac will take over from one of Radio 1’s most popular voices- Zane Lowe, whose last show will be broadcast on 5 March 2015.
Speaking about the announcement, Mac said, “I am so excited and humbled to be asked to do this show. The thing I love about music radio is those private epiphanies it provides. Having 11 hours of airtime a week to share those moments with music that has no boundaries, is beyond a job, it’s a privilege. And to be following in the footsteps of Zane Lowe, a broadcaster that I respect and admire enormously, is a huge honour. I can’t wait to get started.”

Lowe, a New Zealand born DJ, will be leaving BBC Radio 1 to work at Apple. Since joining the network in 2003, Lowe has become famous for promoting emerging artists, of which many have had a breakthrough after the show, including Grammy nominee Ed Sheeran. The 41 year old DJ/ presenter has also interviewed a number of big names on his show like Chris Martin, Eminem and Kanye West.
Addressing his move, Lowe said, “I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 – for their support and friendship. The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans – I’ve loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead.”
Along with presenting the weekday evening music show, Mac, an Irish DJ and presenter, will continue to host the network’s dance music show from 7 to 10 p.m. every Friday. However, she will no longer host Radio 1’s Sunday evening (10 p.m. to 1 a.m.) show- ‘Musical Hot Water Bottle’. From Sunday 1 Marhc, the show will be presented by Phil Taggart, who also hosts the Thursday evening future music show. In a statement Taggart said that he was “thrilled” to get three more hours on Radio 1 and thanked Mac for passing the hot water bottle” to him.
