It’s 2008, and Indian Idol season one runner up Amit Sana is back on the music scene with “Yaadein” a trip down memory lane. The nostalgia trip takes him right from Bhilai (his hometown) to the Indian Idol days of 2005. The music video of the title track stars Amit Sana as the lead model. Initially apprehensive about starring in the video, the singer managed to put his worries behind him and gaze confidently into the camera.
In a chat, Amit shares his experiences of creating the album and turning model for the music video, with radioandmusic’s Shabana Ali.

What is your new album about?
Yaadein is a romantic album. It has all the flavours of love that someone experiences in the whole process. Yaadein talks about different moods and flavours that people experience about love and emotions. The music is meant to be very soothing to the ears and it involves no complexity, all I wanted to give to my audience is some music which relaxes the listener.
Why did you name the album Yaadein?
Previously, I wanted to name it Khalish, which means strong and deep desires, which are incomplete. But the title track of the album is Yaadein, so to avoid confusions with the song and the album, I decided to go ahead with Yaadein.
What made you change your look?
My friends and colleagues always wanted me to look mature. My previous hairstyle made me look very innocent and cute so I started growing my hair. It fetched me a lot of compliments, so I decided to carry the same look forward.
Do we hear more of western beats in this album?
No, this album is not more of western music but it has a blend of both classical and western beats. It’s a fusion of western vocals and classical melodies. It has three dance tracks and five originals.
How long did it take you to come up with this album?
It took me almost a year and a half to come up with this album. The title track took me one year and then it went on through a lot of transformation to come up with the final song.
This the first time that you have acted in front of the camera. How was the experience?
I was very scared about the shoot, especially the one where I had to act with my co-star. My director and my co-star were very co-operative and put me at ease while shooting those scenes. And the funny part was that all my individual shots were okayed at one take.
So do you plan to take up acting now?
No. It was a good experience to shoot as a lead model for my video but I am not thinking of taking up acting as a career at least for the time being.
Your first album Chal Diye was with Sony BMG. Why did you opt for Times Music for this album?
Chal Diye happened just after Indian Idol. And then Sony BMG got busy with Indian Idol season two and other projects. I approached Times Music and things fell into place immediately.
How many albums will you be doing with Times Music?
I cannot disclose the contract with Times Music, but yes it would probably be a couple of them.
What do you expect from your audience?
All I expect is that people listen to my album and enjoy all its flavours. It is meant for all the people who believe in love and have experienced it once in their lifetime.
