MUMBAI: Sanaya Ardeshir aka Sandunes recently released her music video for the title track of her EP ‘Slybounce’ ft. Nicholson and it is simple but intense. The video, released last week, has been receiving positive reviews and has made it to the top videos in the independent music video list on many websites.
Ardeshir, who has written and composed the track, describes ‘Slybounce’ as exiting social situations without saying goodbyes and fulfilling other societal norms. Offering vocals on the track was Sohrab Nicholson, who gave the song an organic sound. On working with Sachin Pillai, who directed the video, Ardeshir says, “Over several meetings and listening sessions with him, I had managed to explain exactly what space the song was coming from and the ideology behind ‘Slybounce’. It was inspired by the city and we attempted to portray a take on the social circuit through a specific set of emotions.”
Talking about the collaboration with organic electronica music composer, she says that Nicholson nailed the song and provided the perfect finishing touch to her tune. Influenced by many different genres like jazz, blues and electronic, Sandunes does not reserve her music to be of a particular genre.

Ardeshir breaks away from the conventional electronic music to create tunes that are contemplative and possess depth. The video which is shot in black and white is aesthetically appealing and provides an underlying shadowy theme to the song. Ardeshir, who also did a cameo in the video along with Nicholson, comments, “We were going for ‘quite real’ when we shot the video.”
The Mumbai based electronic music maker added, “I wrote the song with the intent to communicate or lay focus on cognitive dissonance, as experienced knowingly or unknowingly by one and all.”
The artiste will also be seen collaborating with Wolves, which is a live visual project of Joshua Dmello and Jash Reen. Wolves and Sandunes will be creating an audio-visual installation that will be displayed at the gallery TARQ in Colaba throughout October 2014. Several other artistes from different platforms will also be showcasing their work as part of the same exhibition.
Ardeshir explains, “The theme of the exhibition is ‘Pocket maps of the mind’. Our collaboration is focused around new media created to the theme of residual memory that precedes past lives and transcends human individuality with a focus on unity consciousness and the creation of the universe. So, all the audio and visual material is created to try to evoke a subtle sense of nostalgia.”
She will also be collaborating with many different artistes in the coming months. They will all lead up to her performances at NH7 Weekender at Pune and Delhi. The act will be called Sandunes Ensemble, and will have Ardeshir perform alongside several vocalists, especially for the Pune edition of the festival.
