MUMBAI: T-Series Public Performance License (TPPL) president M M Satish has put in his papers at music company T-Series, with which he was associated for over last five years.
The anti-piracy crusader, who made headlines with his anti piracy measures as head of the PPL at the Indian Music Industry, and then as head of TPPL, is turning scriptwriter and producer for Hindi films. Satish will be taking up the position of CEO of a reputed entertainment company within a month.
Satish has completed his script for a film to be directed by Abbas-Mustan. The film is tentatively titled â€?666′. Among his future projects are â€?Ultimate Virus’ and â€?Jab we slept’, scripts that are in the gestation stage. The theme of â€?666′ revolves around six suicide bombers who plan to blow up the city of London on sixth day of the sixth month. The other movie, â€?Ultimate Virus’ spins on the lines of a aircraft hijack by virus in the system.

Commenting on his paradigm career shift, Satish says, It is not that I am trying to experiment with something that is new to me. I have always been a part of the entertainment industry and writing had been at the back of my mind for a long time now. Writing is my passion and I wish to conceive some original scripts…. Satish, who is a registered writer with The Film Writers Association of India as well as the Writers Guild of America, has also recently been appointed by the government of India as a member of the task force by the Ministry and Food Processing Industries. I have been fighting for anti-piracy in music but I think it’s more important to fight piracy in food, pharmacy and other sectors,… he says.
From 1 June 2008, T-Series has officially allowed the IMI’s licensing arms – The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) and the Phonographic performance Ltd. (PPL) – to collect the public performance licence fees on its behalf. It was this move that has finally prompted Satish to leave the organisation where he built the TPPL from scratch four and and a half years ago.
T-Series, which was affiliated to the IPRS, withdrew its membership claiming misappropriation of accounts and the collections swelled after the TPPL started collecting royalties.
It was under his guidance that the DJ license was introduced by T-Series, as well as the move to acquiring licenses for playing copyrighted music at marriages and other events. TPPL also became the first Indian company to demand licensing fees in Dubai. Satish’s move to increase the licensing rates like raising the bar for award events to 15 lakhs from 15,000 had brought huge revenues to the company and helped to position it as the number one music company in the country, point out industry observers.
During his career, Satish has been awarded the Anti-Piracy crusader award by the United States.
