New Delhi: Renowned vocalist Jagjit Singh today said emphatically that he would like to be known as an all round singer and not just a ghazal singer since had had rendered music in all genres.
The singer was speaking after the music launch of Punjabi film â€?Sat Sri Akal’ directed by Kamal Sahni. Music for the film has been composed by Ravinder Singh. The album, which comprises 12 numbers, has two tracks sung by Jagjit Singh himself.
The album also has a ‘shabd’ rendered by the late Ishmeet Singh, winner of this year’s TV talent hunt Star Voice of India. This is probably his only song as playback singer, and expectedly the film has been projected as a tribute to Ishmeet who was merely 19 years of age when he died in an accident in the Maldives last month.

In fact, the event commenced with all present observing silence to pay homage to the departed.
Singh praised the late singer and said he had a voice that could have suited any kind of music. Kohli said the proposal to open a music school in Ishmeet’s name in Ludhiana was under consideration.
Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop who is a professor in the Punjab University in Chandigarh said Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and Jagjit Singh would forever remain entrenched in people’s minds as the top singers of the century.
Arvinderjit pointed out that a special feature of the film was that shooting had been done at three places of pilgrimage – Sri Harmandar Saheb (Amritsar), Sri Hazur Saheb (Nanded) and Sri Bangla Sahib (Delhi).
A joint production of Mata Triptaji Charitable Trust, Chandigarh, and Frankfinn Entertainment Company Pvt Ltd., Sat Sri Akal is a tribute commemorating 300 years of Gurta Gaddi Diwas (Coronation) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Slated for worldwide release, Sat Sri Akal is expected to be released in October.
