MUMBAI: Gaurav Dagaonkar is the music director of the film Heartless that was held up amidst a tiff between a Label company and a singer. Dagaonkar shares his own set of challenges that he faced due to last minute alteration due to the controversy.
He starts off by saying that his experience composing music was wonderful and it took him almost a year to compose and get the tracks finalised. “I had a set of tunes in my mind based on the situation of the film. Shekhar Suman was also very particular about them and based on all the factors I decided the singers and delivered the soundtrack.”
The music of the film Heartless was into a controversy after Sonu Nigam disagreed to sign a contract put forth by the label company T-series. Things were taken to another level when Nigam who had earlier lent his voice to the title track, decided to not sign the agreement issued by the label company. On asked to speak about his last minute struggle due to the controversy, he said, “Firstly, the track came out so well and suddenly the whole controversy required the change of the singer last minute. It was a tedious task. We are very thankful to the music fraternity who encouraged us to go forward with recording the track with other singer. This rock ballad is a distinctive song so we decided to get Mohit Chauhan to sing the track. ”
He further goes on, “We had heard Sonu Nigam and then we heard Mohit Chauhan sing the title track. Both these singers have distinct style of their own, making it difficult to decide which version was better. Both provided different persona to the track.”
Describing his journey he said, “Everything was so systemically happening. But the whole disagreement affected our planning which delayed our music release and various other activities.” He further added, “Suddenly, we had to record again with new singer. I was busy with my concerts and suddenly I was made know that there was a need to re-record the track. I had to figure out a way to balance both but I managed too.”
Dagaonkar is the lead vocalist and frontman of the group ‘Synchronicity’ but he has not sung for the film himself. He is determined to stick to Synchronicity and not move around to become part of any other band. Dagaonkar plans to concentrate on composing music for films and help to build the image of Synchronicity.
