MUMBAI: After delivering musical hits for films like Fashion, Aaja Nachle, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Chak De India, the musical duo Salim Sulaiman are making their presence felt in the music industry with their two tracks in upcoming film Satyagraha and with their new episodes in Coke Studio at MTV Season 3.
Out of seven tracks in Satyagraha, two songs are composed by the duo and one is the remix of their original track.
In this edition of Coke studio, the duo has composed the track, ‘Bismillah’ for the program which turned out to be a ‘qawwali. Talking about how ‘Bismillah’ was composed with the voice of Munawar Masoom Khan, Salim said, “We initially wanted to make this track a Sufi song. While we sat for composing the song suddenly out of the blue said, ‘Bismillah karte hain’ and that’s how this track was made.”

Talking about the music directors being associated with the signature style, Salim in a candid conversation with Radioandmusic.com said, “Why do you want to be associated with one kind of music when you have so much to explore. You have folk music, you have so much variety from each state so why associate to one style. “
The music composers these days start off with a big banner film and later move on to something niche. Commenting on the same Salim with a flashing smile said, “It is high time that the composers have a separate industry which is non filmy. We have so much to experiment when it comes to different genres of music. So it’s wrong if the composers move away to something that is non filmy. We need to have a separate industry so that we can experiment all the styles – be it folk from Punjab, or Gujarat or even Rajasthan. And we already have all the styles we just need to channelise the same.”
The duo is off to a musical tour to Singapore on 17 August.
