Singer: Vishal Dadlani, Hamsika Iyer, Sricharan Kasturirangan, Chinmayi Sripaada, Gopi Sunder, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Anusha Mani, Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh,Neeti Mohan, Brodha V, Smokey, Enkore, Natalie Di Luccio, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Jonita Gandhi, Phoenyx and Zoheb Khan.

After teaming up for Om Shanti Om, Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone will hit the silverscreen for their upcoming comedy action Chennai Express. Expectations are obviously high since, the top notch production houses UTV Motion and Red Chillies Entertainment have joined hands for this upcoming action comedy flick Chennai Express. The film is about a man’s journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and on his way he fall in love with the daughter of a don. Slated to release in August, the film is directed by maverick director Rohit Shetty and produced by Gauri Khan. The renowned music composer duo Vishal–Shekhar has composed six original tracks along with the background score of the film.

‘One Two Three Four (Get on the Dance Floor)’ was the first promotional track that was released on World Music Day. This is a dance number that is rendered by Vishal Dadlani, Hamsika Iyer and Sricharan Kasturirangan. It thumps to the rhythms of the Carnatic percussion, sung with great fervour by Hamsika Iyer and Vishal Dadlani. This energetic item number is a mix of Hindi, English and Tamil lyrics which is catch of the energetic number.

The music and the lyrics of the soothing track ‘Titli’ have a strong Tamilian flavour. The song starts with Tamilian lyrics and young voices of Chinmayi Sripaada and Gopi Sunder actually make you feel like a butterfly. Madhumitha Mani has penned the Tamilian lyrics, whilst Amitabh Bhattacharya is the lyricist for the Hindi verses. The music sweeps into you. Titli dubstep version is a good change in music for listeners who need some different beats. The jerk in between in this track gives a good effect to the alternative track of ‘Titli’.

‘Tera Rastaa Chhodoon Na’ is a yet another slow track and the voice is rendered by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Anusha Mani. The lyric of the song is amazing. However, despite a lot of efforts, Bhattacharya’s voice just does not gel well with the track. The voice fails to create a long lasting impact.

Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan have rendered the naughty number ‘Kashmir main, tu Kanyakumari’. The song describes the ordeal of lovers in a funny manner. The music is simple and catches the ears immediately due to its peppiness. The Tamilian style in the song matches the backdrop of the film.

If reports are to be believed ‘Ready Steady Po’ was re-created after the makers of the film were not satisfied. It is an energetic song with the techno beats rendered by Brodha V., Natalie Di’luccio, Smokey, Enkore and Vishal Dadlani. It is an experimental number and has little rapping in between.  The video is yet to be released.

After 15 years, SP Balasubrahmanyam returns to Bollywood music singing the title track ‘Chennai Express’ for the film. The track is a miz of techno music and the voice takes you back to the era of 80’s. Jonita Gandhi also gives her vocals in the film.

The overall music of Chennai Express does deliver as per expectations and has mixed flavours of music with a tinge of a Tamilian touch to match the backdrop.
