After the success of psychological thriller-Murder 2, Mohit Suri is back with Aashiqui 2 which is the sequel of commercially and critically successful 1990’s Aashiqui particularly because of its music. Aashiqui 2 has put in their efforts music to deliver heart touching romantic tracks. The film stars Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles and is slated to release on 26 April.
Aashiqui 2 is again the combination of Bhatt’s and Kumar’s. Aashiqui was produced by Gulshan Kumar and Mahesh Bhatt in 1990, meanwhile, Gulshan Kumar’s son Bhusan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt have produced Aashiqui 2. The sequel has three music composers Mithoon, Jeet Ganguli and Ankit Tiwari.
The first track in the jukebox is ‘Tum hi ho’ which is the first melodious track which has been used in the trailer of the film and had much more attention than expected on YouTube with around 2 million views within two weeks of the launch. The teaser of the song was launched on 23 March.
Arijit Singh has done justice to Mithoon’s composition. Lyrics in this track play a vital role on getting the audience engaged. The way Singh emphasizes on the word ‘Hum’ in the start invites you to feel the track. Mithoon has done a wonderful work in this track and audience has also given their verdict on the track on YouTube.
For the next track ‘Sunn Raha hai’, Mithoon turns lyricist for Ankit Tiwari’s composition. Tiwari has tried to experiment in terms of music with lot of drums and strings which gives pace to music. In some parts of the track, Tiwari sings in a way that slows down the pacing song. The play with strings along with the slow vocals is beautiful to listen. This track also takes its courage from the lyrics.
Lead vocalist of Roxen band, Mustafa Zahid has rendered the track ‘Bhula Dena’. Jeet Gangulli has composed soft rock music accompanied with pinch of melodious touch and Pakistani Rock artist have delivered his vocals with changing musical pace. Sanjay Masoomm has penned the lyrics of this emotional track.
Tulsi Kumar kick starts the track ‘Hum Mar Jayenge’ which has that magical feel and the play of flute spice ups the music. Kumar’s voice suits the music completely but it is not one of those tracks that you cannot hear it constantly. You need to get the mood set then it will do the magic instead. Singh has also rendered the track along with Kumar but Kumar takes the cake here. Irshad Kamil’s lyrics have worked well with Gangulli’s music.
Singh renders this sorrowful track ‘Aasan Nahin Yahan’. The vocals he gave for the track ‘Tum hi ho’ have set a high expectation that listening to this track was not that exciting and pleasant. Gangulli’s music was not charming. Kamil’s lyrics were also lacking the spark.
‘Meri Aashiqui’ is the duet by Palak Muchhal and Singh but it didn’t work too well as it is a track that is almost like ‘Tum hi ho’. Muchhal and Singh’s vocal sounded two different tracks merged to make one.
Gangulli gave the music for ‘Piya Aaye Na’ which is the next track in the jukebox list. Lyrically, musically and vocally it is an average track. Kumar and K.K have rendered the track. It was not an appealing track throughout even if you look for an element to enjoy then I would say it doesn’t have one.
Palak Muchhal and Singh have given a beautiful duet for ‘Chahun Main Ya Naa’ compared to the last track ‘Meri Aashiqui’ which was unappealing. Kamil has penned the lyrics for the composition of Gangulli. Heavy use of guitar is prominent in the track.
Shreya Ghoshal fan’s who missed her melodious side then here you have her rendering ‘Sun raha hai’ for you. It’s a sad number with an enriching music and wonderful Ghoshal’s presence.
The ten and the final track in the list is ‘Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi’ which is a song that concludes by defining Aashiqui and its kind of sums up the film. This track gives the meaning and journey of Aashiqui. Enjoy the words more than the music to understand the depth of Aashiqui.
Overall, lovely pack of romantic tracks but lacks variety. Although the set of music could not meet the expectations of 1990’s Aashiqui, do not miss on Tum Hi Ho, Sunn Raha Hai and Milne Hai Mujhse Aayi from the list as they are pleasing.
