MUMBAI: Popular rapper Jay Z has unveiled a sample of the soundtrack of the upcoming film ‘The Great Gatsby’ online by Interscope/Geffen/A&M. The movie has been scored and co- produced by the singer himself.
The soundtrack features 12 tracks performed by artists like Beyoncé, Fergie, Q Tip, GoonRock, Coco O of Quadron, Gotye, Nero and Sia amongst others. As per reports, Beyonce covers Amy Winehouse’s track ‘Back to Black’ in the film.
The movie is based on Baz Luhrmann’s reimagining of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel set in 1922. The soundtrack will be officially released on 7 May. The film is slated to release in theaters on 10 May.
According to a statement, “Jay Z with collaborator and the film’s executive music consultant Jeymes Samuel, has worked with Luhrmann and his team on the project over the past two years, translating the Jazz Age sensibility of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel into the musical equivalents of our own times, through the blending of hip-hop, traditional jazz and other contemporary musical textures.”
Although, the sampler does not feature songs sung by the rapper and his wife Beyonce, it does contain 30 second snippets of other tracks from the soundtrack including Emeli Sande’s re-working of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy In Love’ (with the Bryan Ferry Orchestra), ‘Together’ by The XX and ‘Young and Beautiful’ by Lana Del Rey.
