MUMBAI: Rishikesh has been the place of attraction for many international bands, mainly because it was one of the places where the Beatles had set their foot to get peace through meditation or yoga. The Tommy Moore Band also could not stop themselves from taking the tour of Rishikesh.
The Tommy Moore Band was in India recently to celebrate and spread the message of St Patrick’s Day. They toured across Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi, giving everyone a taste of the famous Irish spirit. But after the tour they decided to take the path that Beatles had taken when they were in India that was going to Rishikesh. Jameson Irish whiskey bought the band to India.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, The Tommy Moore Band lead vocalist Tommy Moore said, “We have four days off after our tour in India. We are still thinking where to travel but Rishikesh will be our priority. Firstly, it’s the place Beatles had visited when they came to India. Secondly, I am hoping to relax there and do some yoga and chill for few days.”

The Beatles had spent their time near Rishikesh, in the foothills of the Himalayas meditating and who later got inspired and wrote many songs during their visit to Rishikesh. Some of the songs became part of the album The Beatles (aka the White Album), while other songs appeared on Abbey Road, and solo records. Several of the songs contained Eastern musical influences.
Moore said, “This is the third time I have come to India. I had come this time last year in India and in September. My band was formed just two years ago. I was in college doing a bunch of songs and now I am touring India. I hope to tour the world with my music. I am looking forward to come back to India. The response was amazing; people seem to enjoy Irish music. People danced on Irish music and it was great.”
After completing his degree in jazz performance, Moore had put together a band of his fellow graduates and long time friend and musical partner Paul Feery. Its members include Moore – the vocalist, acoustic guitarist and composer, Feery – acoustic guitarist and backing vocalist, Barry Donohue on double bass, Niall Obrien on violin and viola and Steve Kohlmann on drums and percussion.
“We have a good mix of Irish traditional music and some rock and roll accompanied by original songs of my own,” he added.
The Tommy Moore Band is working on a single that is inspired by Rishikesh.
The recording of it will start by May and it will be out in September. “All the music is written and song has to be finalized. I have a song I wrote last September when I was in India. We have many songs we have to take the best out,” he added.
They have lots of festivals and events lined-up and they are hopeful they will be busy till September.
