MUMBAI: According to reports, Priyanka Chopra had stated that she wanted to give the much-talked about ‘In My City’ video an Indian flavour in terms of dancing. “I wanted the world to see what Bollywood is all about.” But when you see the video you still don’t find Bollywood or to say the Indian flavour present in it.
Priyanka unveiled the video on 29 January, initially, it gave me a feeling that PeeCee is doing her Nokia promotional video where the whole thing starts about with her tapping her handset.
She sizzles in the pair of hot pants. But apart from showing off her beautiful figure, it is little upsetting in terms of dance and content, as there is nothing called ‘Indian style’ dance.

If the Namaste and the ubiquitous autorickshaw gesture in the video signifies ‘Indianess’ along with the Bhangra break, then one can argue Ms Chopra has kept her word incorporate ‘desiness’ in her international video, but the Indian elements mentioned are hardly noticeable as representation of her origins. Also, Pelvic thrusts and shakes- a typical Bollywood/ Indian dance move- doesn’t quite come out as such in the video.
The only thing appreciable was that when she sings about the city it’s not limited to Mumbai or Delhi but also includes London, New York and so on. Our desi gal missed the desi part but surely portrays the ‘international’ look to be liked by her fans. It is very similar to those of Rihanna or Beyonce music videos but Chopra looks charming in her own to sell internationally.
