MUMBAI: Mangalore will be host to two renowned western classical artists as part of the ‘Virasat 2012’ music fest to be held from 24-26 September. The artists are Latin American musician Gustavo Tavares and classical guitarist Anders Clemens Oien who have also recently performed in Gurgaon, Haryana.
The three-day fest is organized by the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (Spic Macay) in collaboration with the Norwegian Embassy as part of the World Heritage Series.
The cultural fest starts in Manipal on 24 September; moves on to Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) at Moodbidri on 25 September. The duo will also perform on the same day – 25 September- at the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, and at the festival’s conclusion at the Manipal School on 26 September.

Speaking to Radioandmusic.com, Spic Macay Institutional Coordinator Anisha Pucadyil said both the artists would perform at all the four venues during the festival.
Brazilian cellist Gustavo Tavares is considered as one of the country’s most important artist in Latin American music. He has performed and collaborated with artists all over the world.
His ensemble ‘Triangulo’ Latin American music repertoire CD of 2001 was nominated for a Grammy Award and another was listed as Record of the Year (1997).
Norwegian Classical guitarist Anders Clemens Oien has played with a multitude of musicians from many countries – string quartets, vocalists, violinists, flutists including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Anders is the first Scandinavian performer to receive the prestigious Andres Segovia award in La Herraduar.
