NEW DELHI: Path breaking filmmaker Anurag Kashyap said that he was conscious about the songs of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’ not being fit to be played on radio, but knew that they would be well received by listeners and so this did not worry him.
Kashyap addressed a press conference after the world premiere of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’ at the 12th Osian’s Cinefan Festival on 4 August in Delhi.
He described lyricist Piyush Mishra as his sounding board and said that he has not only written, sung and acted in the film, but also played the role of a narrator.

Kashyap opined that Mishra is somewhat disillusioned with everything around him, but agreed that this could be the reason for his strongly-worded but effective songs. However, some of the songs in the film are based on local folk songs that are popular in the region. He said he could not stop toying with new ideas just because a song will not be played on radio.
Mishra had also written controversial songs for Kashyap’s earlier ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and ‘Gulaal’.
Kashyap did not agree that violence affected people and led to a more violent society and said that it was unreal violence that people cringed from. For example, killing of animal in a butcher’s shop is often enough to make people turn to vegetarianism.
‘Gangs of Wasseypur 2’ co-written, produced and directed by Anurag Kashyap, features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi in lead roles. The film slated to release on 8 August has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Indian Censor Board due to coarse language and violence.
