MUMBAI: After delivering chartbusting hits in bollywood films like ‘Zindagi na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Housefull’ and ‘Patiala House’, singer Alyssa Mendonsa has broken the traditional route and ventured into regional film music in the South.
The endearing singer has recently rendered her first regional song for a Tamil film ‘Tandavam’.Composed by renowned music director GV Prakash, the romantic track is sung in half-English and half-Tamil. The film is slated to release within the next two months.
Speaking about the track with Radioandmusic.com, Mendonsa says, “This is my first regional language film song and I was really excited when I got the opportunity. I really enjoyed the experience of singing in Tamil and I am open to similar offers in the future as well. I really hope this song does well when the movie releases.”

Apart from the film, the singer is also composing few solo English tracks which she will perform at venues like Blue Frog or Hard Rock Café in Mumbai. She has already composed and penned around three to four tracks featuring western beats. “Since I am not a very highly trained singer, my compositions are always very simple. Even in these songs, I have just used the simple piano chords on my voice. I will perform these tracks in Mumbai first and then depending on the response I may perform in other cities,” she affirms.
With most singers and composers cashing on the advantages of the digital era, Mendonsa too feels that the new age media is the way ahead for bollywood. She recently uploaded two original compositions on Youtube which have been garnering positive response. “Music is a universal language and if digital is the way forward, then why not? I have recently uploaded two tracks on Youtube which is my original composition and would love to upload more in the future as well,” she shares.
Being the daughter of renowned composer Loy Mendonsa, the singer believes that with constant encouragement from leading composers emerging talent has a lot of scope in bollywood. “All the composers with whom I have worked with have helped me a a lot and given me immense encouragement.”
