Mumbai: Rajeeta Hemwani, who put in her papers at Big Music last week, has launched her own new innovative venture, Monks of Music.
Hemwani , who headed content, Artiste and Repertoire at Big Music, has for the last 16 years, discovered and launched some of the biggest names in the music world and pioneered the most innovative sounds. Having headed content for labels like Tips Industries, Times Music and recently Reliance’s Big music,Rajeeta has produced albums for names like Dj Suketu, Dj Nasha,Gulzar,Abida Parveen,Dr zeus, Shankar Mahadevan,Asha Bhosle, Ghulam Ali,Jagjit Singh,Dj Akbar Sami,Dj Whosane to name a few..She was the brainchild behind creating brands like Jalwa and The War of the DJs.She also completely changed the trend of spiritual music in this country during her ten year stint with Times Music starting with the pathbreaking Gayatri Mantra.
Her brief eight month stint with Big music had her signing up artistes like Dr Zeus,Ali Zafar,Amaan & Ayaan Ali Khan, Dj Whosane, Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Asha Bhosle Bandish Project and a dj duo Kilogram amongst others.

According to Hemwani, Monks of Music is a venture “that can change the way this industry would function in the near future and is a boon for all new talent and smaller independent labels.”
Hemwani says that the venture will be the interface between all new talent and the music labels of this country and internationally. “It would take the independent smaller labels global by licensing their new sounds to labels abroad, and could become a one stop shop for innovative film producers and production houses to choose the soundtracks for their respective movies from hundreds of songs available with the company. This would be a first time ever venture and I see a great potential here,” says Hemwani.
Monks of Music will also produce the complete audio visual package for artistes who have the means but no guiding force behind it. Hemwani says she is actively looking at importing talent from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka into the country.
“After 16 years of heading content for various labels, I felt I had done enough for others. My friends and well wishers always kept pushing me to start something path breaking which could use my experience and credibility in the industry. Monks of Music has something to offer to everybody, from music labels to musicians to singers to DJs to models and film producers,” adds Hemwani.
