MUMBAI: One of the world’s most renowned beatboxer, Shlomo is all set on a India tour in September with gigs in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi, wherein he will collaborate with some of India’s musicians.
Shlomo has performed all over the world at the biggest festivals and events including Glastonbury, Bestival and Big Chill. His performance with Bjork at the 2004 Olympics was even nominated for a Grammy Award. He has also started the world’s first beatbox choir called the Vocal Orchestra and he is one of the founders of the global beatbox portal called humanbeatbox.com.
Renowned for collaborating with artistes around the world including Bjork, Damon Albarn and Nitin Sawhney, his tour of India includes some exciting performances with Indian artists. Rajasthani folk artist Raies Khan from the renowned Dharohar Project and a master of the morchang will accompany Shlomo in all the three cities.

In Mumbai, Shlomo will perform on 15 September in collaboration with Sidd Coutto, Vivek Rajgopalan and Raies Khan. Sidd Coutto is the front man of rock, reggae and pop act Tough on Tobacco. Vivek Rajagopalan, a leading Indian percussionist collaborates with Shlomo on the mridangam and kanjira bringing his variety of styles into the mix. Shlomo’s day in Mumbai also includes a workshop for public school children where he will introduce them to the basics of beatboxing.
Shlomo performs in Delhi on 16 September where he will be collaborating with Raies Khan and leading city musicians. Bangalore will host the musician on 18 September where he will perform along with Swarathma and Raies Khan.
Burn and Hard Rock Caf?© present Shlomo’s tour in Mumbai and Bangalore and Opus presents the performance in Bangalore. The tour is organized in association with British Council Shlomo has been invited to perform in the country by That Cat Entertainment and his tour has been organized and managed by them. Only Much Louder also supports the tour.
Beatboxing as a genre of music is still very new in the country. It is a form of vocal percussion which primarily involves the art of producing drum beats, rhythm and musical sounds using one’s mouth, lips, tongue and voice. It may also involve singing, vocal imitation of turn-tablism, the simulation of horns, strings and other musical instruments. Beatboxing today is connected with hip hop culture, being one of the elements, although it is not limited to hip hop music these days.
