MUMBAI: Salim and Sulaiman Merchant are now the brand ambassadors of Project 511 which is an NGO at Telangana. Project 511 (NGO), an initiative of Hyderabad Round Table 8 have carried out many initiatives which help in providing quality education and basic necessities to kids.
Project 511 trustee Harish Therukuri says, “We are primarily an NGO working in the space of improving the quality of education in government schools in the state of Telangana. So currently we are working for 1022 Government schools. We are taking up some initiatives in terms of infrastructures like providing blackboards, seating and washrooms which will definitely add value. We also provide teaching material kits like globes, charts, science labs for kids to have practical experience.”
“Recently the state government of Telangana has switched from Telugu medium to English medium. The teachers including the kids are finding it very difficult to cope up, to help them out we have come up with a pilot program which we would initiate in 25 schools, known as Khardi Path an action based method of teaching,” explains Therukuri.

On their association with Salim and Sulaiman, he states, “First we approached Salim and Sulaiman Merchant showcased our work to them and they were happy to come on board as our goodwill ambassadors. So fundamentally they would be promoting the work we do, as well as participate in our activities. They felt that we were a credible organisation to which they could lend their name. So, that’s how they have come on board with us and to begin with, they have signed a guitar.”
This guitar would be auctioned at Project 511’s Fund Raiser which will be held on 19 October 2017. The NGO is also planning inter-school competitions and events in which the composer duo will be a part of.
“As of now their collaboration with us would be for one year and at the end of the year they would let us know how fulfilling the association was and only after that we would take it further,” adds Therukuri.
