MUMBAI: Mikey McCleary, the award-winning composer, performer, and producer is composing music for Aditya Chopra’s upcoming film, ‘Befikre’ starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles.
McCleary told Radioandmusic.com, “I have produced the songs for Aditya Chopra’s new film, ‘Befikre’ and I am also composing the background music for Vishal-Shekhar for the same film.”
Mikey recently teamed up with Bollywood actress turned singer Priyanka Chopra for his next venture and while sharing his experience he said, “Well, It was a fabulous experience. I can’t provide you the details about the actual project right now because it’s a surprise but I can tell you that Priyanka has heard and liked my jazzy versions of old songs and then asked for me to work on this project with her,” said the composer.

Mikey, who had studied music and worked abroad recently composer for a Bollywood film ‘Waiting’ and we think all the scores are magical. While talking about his music journey, what brought him to Mumbai, difficulties to get into Bollywood music industry and the growing indie music scene in India he said, “Creating something musical is different every time but usually starts with me sitting down and playing the guitar or piano in my studio and develops from there and starts to take shape. Some tracks start from a melodic base and others from a groove base. Many years ago when living in London I met Lucky Ali and we made three albums together. It was this experience that made me very interested in music in India. Eventually, I moved here and began making music for TV advertising and films. Bollywood happened gradually. I like doing a varied mixture of work.”
“The Indie scene is gradually getting more and more exciting. There are some terrific artists. The rise of Indian music festivals and live music, in general, is also helping. The internet gives anyone a platform to show their work. I look forward to the day when Indie artists are household names,” added the composer.
Befikre is an upcoming Indian Hindi romantic drama film written, directed and produced by Aditya Chopra under his Yash Raj Films banner. The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on 9 December 2016.
