MUMBAI: Singer-composer Sreejith Edavana who recently composed his first Hindi pop album ‘Dhuun’ under Times Music is happy on being associated with the label, but his struggle to promote his album on a large scale still continues.
Edavana is a well-known name in the south music industry with films like ‘Yuvvh’ (Malayalam Film), ‘Love Policy’ (Malayalam Film), ‘Kamasutra 3D’ (Hindi Film), ‘Shivani’ (Tamil Film) and ‘Madhura Naranga’ (Malayalam Film) to his credit, but when it comes to albums especially, Hindi, It does not get any easy for this music composer. “The investments in an independent project are high. However, the returns aren’t that appealing if the album is not promoted well. Though, one never does independent projects for monetary benefits. It’s for creative satisfaction,” explained the music composer who had to delay the release of ‘Dhuun’ for three months due to lack of promotion.
In fact, Edavana went out of his way to promote his album in print, on channels and radio stations in the South. “This was before I managed to get Times Music onboard. Now, they are helping me get coverage in different regions.”

The composer is looking at getting a pan India audience with his latest album ‘Dhuun.’ It is a Hindi pop album with western classical and jazz. ‘Dhuun’ means Rhythm. The album comprises seven songs which are about seven shades of love. “I have also kept the genres of these songs different by bringing in carnatic, hindustani classical, hip-hop, reggae and funk together in an album. Most importantly the verse of each song has a different music with a hook line that connects the song,” said Edavana.
The songs have been sung by Sooraj Santhosh, Shwashwat Singh, Saptaparna Chakraborthy, Roshni Suresh, Neha Venugopal and Edavana himself. The compose has also sung two songs – ‘Tum Se Milke Jaana’ and ‘Dil Ko Aaj Yeh.’ The lyrics have been penned by Chandan Kataria. These songs also have music videos three of which have already released, rest will release in the coming weeks.
Edavana is also composing for upcoming films like ‘Meow’ (Tamil Film), ‘Taali’ (Tamil film), ‘Dir Sugeeths’ (Malayalam Film) and one Marathi Film.
