He brought Shakespeare to Indian cinema with solely Indian sensibilities, his reinvented, resilient female characters gave a new dimension to Indian cinema.
And now Bharadwaj has created a short film, ‘Blood Brothers’ for raising awareness about HIV. ‘Blood Brothers’ is part of a series of films produced by the Bill Gates Foundation. The Foundation creates such series to generate awareness about HIV. The other films were arranged by Mira Nair, Farhan Akhtar and Santosh Sivan. Bharadwaj’s movie is all about the outlook towards HIV and in its heart-warming end gives a message of accepting HIV-AIDS as any other disease and facing it with resilience. Based on the story by Matthew Robbins, the film weaves together the stories of two people, who share their names, but not fate. As the story continues, Pavan Malhotra and Siddharth, both named Arjun Dutt, get their medical reports mixed up at the laboratory. Siddharth gets the wrong positive report which devastates him and he leaves the house with a feeling of irreversible damage. Later, Siddharth finds out about the mix-up, and breaks the truth to the other Arjun, played by Malhotra.
