MUMBAI: Ed Sheeran, Noel Gallagher, James Bay, Duran Duran, Mark Ronson and New Order, came out triumphant at UK’s annual music awards-Q Awards, which was held in London. Hosted by Christian O’Connell, the event was a star-studded affair.
‘Ordinary World’ hitmakers Duran Duran bagged the Q Icon title this year, while Best Live Act was presented to Royal Blood. The British drum n bass duo contended against the likes of Ed Sheeran, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Mumford & Sons and The Libertines. Meanwhile, DJ and record producer Mark Ronson was presented with the Q Hero award.
Brit award winner, Sheeran, who was not at the event, was declared winner of the Best Solo Artist category, which also featured names like Sam Smith, Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Noel Gallagher.

Best Album went to Noel Gallagher for ‘Chasing Yesterday’. The former Oasis musician contested against the likes of Jamie xx for ‘In Colour’, Everything Everything for ‘Get To Heaven’, Blur for ‘The Magic Whip’ and Florence + The Machine for ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful.’
The Q Best Video title was awarded to Florence + The Machine for ‘Ship To Wreck’. The other nominations in the category were Muse (Psycho), Foals (What Went Down), The Weeknd (Can’t Feel My Face) and Miguel (Coffee).
Foals was honoured with the Q Best Act in the World Today title. Other nominees in the category were Blur, Noel Gallagher, Muse and Ed Sheeran.
Rock band ‘New Order’ won the Outstanding Contribution To Music title. Meanwhile, Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ was honoured with the Q Classic Song title. In the Q Classic Album category, Soul II Soul’s debut album ‘Club Classics Vol. On’ won the award.

In the Q Best New Act category, James Bay was named winner among ten other nominations, including Soak, Slaves, The Bohicas, Circa Waves, Years & Years, Wolf Alice, Jess Glynne, Songhoy Blues and Courtney Barnett. This was the only category with ten nominations, while most of the others had just five nominations.

The award in the Q Best Track category was presented to The Libertines for the track ‘Gunga Din’. The band came out victorious over Foals for ‘What Went Down’, Mark Ronson for ‘Uptown Funk’, Florence + The Machine for ‘What Kind Of Man’ and New Order for ‘Restless’.
Meanwhile, the Gibson Les Paul Award was handed over to guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, while Q Innovation in Sound award was given to record producer- Gary Numan.
