MUMBAI: Brandon Flowers’ second solo album ‘The Desired Effect’ claimed the top spot on the UK Albums Chart, after fighting off some stiff competition from another indie rock singer Paul Weller. Flowers’ latest release managed a combined charts sale of 5,000, which eventually saw him take the top spot, ahead of the rock veteran’s ‘Saturns Pattern’.
With ‘The Desired Effect’ debuting at number one, The Killer’s frontman has earned his sixth number one, including his 2010 solo album ‘Flamingo’ and four Killers albums- ‘Battle Born’ (2012), ‘Day & Age (2008), Sam’s Town (2006) and ‘Hot Fuss'(2004).
The fight at the top took last week’s number one- ‘Wilder Mind’ by Mumford and Sons to third place, while Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ stayed put at number four and Sam Smith’s ‘In the Lonely Hour’ took fifth spot on the charts.

Meanwhile, on the singles chart, OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’ is still going strong in its fourth week at number one, while Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s ‘See You Again’ moved up one place to number two and Lunchmoney Lewis’ ‘Bills’ is in the third spot. The newest entry on the chart is Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ featuring Kendrick Lamar, which jumped up to number four after a video for the track, with some popular faces, was released last week. Rounding up the top is ‘Where Are U Now’ by Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber.
