MUMBAI: In an effort to cash in on the Christmas fervour, internet radio station myopusradio.com has launched ‘O Carol’ a radio channel dedicated for christmas carols and songs.
From popular carols to contemporary renditions that cover jazz, blues, soul, country and many more, O Carol offers 24 hours of non stop Christmas music. Says Sharmon Ibrahim, “The demand for Christmas songs is very high and people generally own one or two albums for Christmas tracks. Which is why we stumbled upon the idea of a separate channel dedicated to the Christmas season.”
He further elaborates, “Though the demand for such niche seasonal tracks may not be too much in India, abroad there is a big market for this music. In India there are some pockets like Goa where Christmas celebrations are big, there is a likable market.”

O Carol will run for the Christmas season and will be in operation till the end of December. “We might run the station for even longer if there is a demand for it. As of now the plans are to culminate the operations in December.”
The station plans to promote itself heavily through online as well as print media. “We are not spending big money on promotions. We would be exploring the social networking sites in the internet space apart from creating a buzz through word of mouth publicity. Our existing data base of listeners would also be informed about our new venture,” says Ibrahim.
Opus’s live venues in Bangalore and Pune have already kickstarted the Christmas celebrations. “We would have live performances and DJ Nights for the Christmas new year celebrations,” he concludes.
