‘Glad Bollywood cartel and monopolies have broken’: Meet Bros
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

They are brash but likable, and their songs and showmanship are unapologetic, but extremely addictive. From a live act, they have successfully extended their professional and artistic wings to playback singing.

Reinforcing their hit making abilities with tracks like ‘Teri Shirt Da Button’ from ‘Kya Super Kool Hain Hum’, Meet Bros have their plate(s) full. In between of mouthful lyrics and flowing rhythm, the Bros- Harmeet, Manmeet and new member Anjjan – pause for a quick tete-a-tete with Radioandmusic.com (RnM):

What projects are you working on?

Meet Bros: Sunil Darshan’s ‘Kar Le Pyar Kar Le’, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Boss’, Apoorva Lakhia’s ‘Zanjeer’, UTV’s ‘Babboo Ki Jawaani’, Inder Kumar’s ‘Grand Masti’, Ken Ghosh’s ‘Next’, Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Warning’ etc.

The music/ film industry is seemingly nurturing a number of multi-talented artists like you. Comment.

Meet Bros: It’s happening pretty late but we’re glad it’s finally happening. All across the world there are innumerable artistes who are working in their respective industry and not just a very few names as was always the trend in our country. I’m glad the monopolies and cartels have broken and every musician today has the platform to showcase the talent.

What is more satisfying- making independent music or making music for films?

Meet Bros: Any day making music for films. It’s easy to make music for yourself or for your album as it’ll be anything that comes to you easily, but in films you have to surpass all your inhibitions, limitations or preferences and meet the situations and the likings of the director, producer and the actors. Since this is a bigger tougher task, hence more satisfying.

A lot of live shows are coming up now beyond the standard Bollywood tours. Are you a part of this circuit?

Meet Bros: We started as pop singers and stage performers. We’ve always been there. We did the world tour with Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Bobby and Sunny Deol in 2003. That has always been our forte.

Who are your creative inspiration and competition in the current crop of musicians and artists?

Meet Bros: We are a team of three- Manmeet, Harmeet and Anjjan. And we are our toughest competition cos (because) we have to satisfy each other with our own music. So, (there is) no competition from anywhere else.

How important is music in today’s films- do you think soon films will do away with music?

Meet Bros: We are born and brought up around Hindi movie songs. It’s not only our culture; it’s become a part of our lives. Music makes a star bigger. Movies without music will have lesser effect on the audiences hence there’s not a chance of it happening.

Your musical/ professional combination with Akshay Kumar seems to be strong- any reasons why?

Meet Bros: He has loved our songs right from ‘Speedy Singhs’ to ‘OMG’ (Oh My God).. He believes in our music and finds it soulful. He gives us complete freedom. He understands melodies very well. He allows us to work in our own style and gets what he wants out of us.

Where do you see Meet Bros five years from now?

Meet Bros: Right here, doing the same thing and all three of us competing with each other to make better music so that we can come up with some great music to entertain our listeners.
